Operación Jaguar

Protect the apex predator of the Amazon

Across the Amazon, jaguars are increasingly being killed for their skins, teeth, and bones as illegal wildlife trafficking expands throughout South America. In parts of the Peruvian Amazon, jaguar parts are entering black markets and international trade networks, placing growing pressure on one of the rainforest’s most important predators. At the same time, habitat loss and human–wildlife conflict continue to push jaguars into dangerous encounters with people. Without stronger protection, rescue capacity, and conservation action on the ground, the future of jaguars in many areas of the Amazon remains uncertain.

Operación Jaguar was created to confront this crisis directly.

Operación Jaguar is ARCA’s flagship initiative dedicated to protecting jaguars across the Peruvian Amazon. As the rainforest’s apex predator, the jaguar plays a critical role in maintaining the balance of Amazonian ecosystems. Yet across the region jaguars face increasing threats from illegal wildlife trafficking, retaliation killings, and habitat loss.

To confront these threats, ARCA is building a world-class wildlife rescue and rehabilitation center in the Peruvian Amazon. Our goal is to create one of the most advanced facilities in Peru dedicated to the rescue, care, and protection of jaguars and other threatened Amazonian wildlife.

Through Operación Jaguar, ARCA will respond to wildlife trafficking cases, rescue animals from illegal captivity, provide specialized veterinary care, and conduct field monitoring to better understand and protect jaguar populations.

But building a facility capable of protecting these incredible animals requires significant support.

With your help, we can build a center that will serve as a frontline defense for jaguars and other wildlife threatened by trafficking and human conflict.

Together we can ensure the jaguar continues to roam the Amazon.
